Finally... the Sun

After the snow and cold for two weeks and the sudden return of wet winter earlier in the week with 14°C in the afternoon, the rain almost continuously falling and winds, we finally had some sunshine and blue sky this afternoon.

After a short break due to weather conditions, pruning started again earlier this week with the thaw.

Wintery Landscape

A heavy snow fell Monday, January 21st in the late afternoon and part of the night, covering the vines, trees and roads with a thick white coat (5cm on top).

January, 22nd - Saint Vincent

Tuesday January, 22nd was a bank holiday for everyone who work in the vineyards of Champagne. St. Vincent, patron saint of winegrowers was honored. A mass was given to thank Saint Vincent for the previous harvest and to protect the vines for the coming year. Brioche and new wine were blessed.

This year, for the first time apparently "Saint Vincent stick" was held by a winegrower living in Branscourt and perhaps the most snowy one for a long time.

After the mass, we came back to Janvry for the traditional cup of good cheer.

White wake up

As announced by Météo France, the snow made its arrival last night and this morning we woke up with about 10 cm (almost 4 inches) of snow. A winter landscape is good and a bit of blue sky and sun make an appearance occasionally.

Snowfall is still expected today. Pruning will wait a few days!

Happy New Year 2013!

Best Wishes for the new year
